Overview

EEG biofeedback, also known as neurofeedback, has been shown to be an effective intervention in the treatment of Specific Learning Disability (SLD). Various case studies of children with learning disabilities show improvements after neurofeedback in auditory memory and reading memory, in addition to increased self-confidence, ability to orally present information in school, and greater fluency in reading for some children. EEG biofeedback has also shown to increase the IQ scores of children with SLD in some cases, with an average improvement of 19 points, as measured by the Wechsler’s IQ test.
Biofeedback therapy could be of various types which include –
• Electromyography (EMG), which measures muscle tension,
• Electrodermography (EDG), which measures the electrical activity in the skin,
• Electroencephalography (EEG)/ Neurofeedback, which measures the activity of brain waves,
• Pneumography, which measures the movement of chest/ abdomen while breathing,
• Photoplethysmography (PPG), which measures heart rate variability, heart rate, and peripheral blood flow.
