Meet Our Team Of Drug Addiction Psychiatrists

Overview

Most rehabilitation centers follow a standard framework of therapies in their daily schedule. Rehab centers are often very organized and structured which minimizes uncertainty and stress among the residents, making it the most supportive and safest environment for fostering recovery.

The day at the rehab usually starts with waking up early for a healthy breakfast and morning classes such as yoga or meditation to start the day with a relaxed mind. This is in alignment with one of rehab’s goals, which is to develop new, healthy habits with the intention that they will remain part of their routine even post-discharge. After breakfast, they may have a group session led by a trained psychologist surrounding topics related to the treatment process, addiction and recovery. The sessions help the addicts gain insight into the issues, surroundings and people in their lives that have contributed to their addiction. Thus, these sessions help them uncover their destructive patterns of thinking and behaviour, while also learning how to cope with their triggers.

The middle of the day often consists of the most intensive aspect of treatment, and is filled individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy sessions. Alternative therapies may also be provided such as art therapy, music therapy, biofeedback, neurofeedback, exercise programs, etc. Free time is also offered for a couple of hours in the rehab during which the residents may engage in recreational activities such as playing basketball, pool, volleyball, or spend their time reading, journaling, or meditating. The evening may have another short group session, typically, a 12-step program, followed by early bedtime hours to ensure healthy habit-building and more energy for the residents to participate in the rehab treatment program to their fullest.
